In what can only be described as Tesla finally saying “India, let’s do family road trips properly,” Tesla has unveiled the all-new Model Y L, a six-seater electric SUV tailored for both urban commutes and long highway escapes. Launched at ₹61.99 lakh, the Model Y L marks Tesla’s boldest attempt yet to blend luxury, practicality, and a bit of Silicon Valley wizardry into the Indian automotive landscape.
The unveiling took place at Tesla’s Ballard Pier Downtown Experience Centre, with orders opening nationwide immediately. Customers can also get up close with the vehicle starting April 23 at Tesla hubs in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram—because sometimes, seeing really is believing (especially when it accelerates like a sports car but carries six people and their luggage).

At the heart of the Model Y L is its promise of space and speed—a rare combination. With a claimed WLTP range of up to 681 km and a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.0 seconds, this isn’t your typical “family SUV.” It’s more like a family SUV that secretly went to the gym and came back with a performance badge. Add to that a massive 2,539 litres of cargo space, and it’s clear Tesla wants you to pack everything—from suitcases to spontaneous road trip plans.
Inside, the Model Y L leans heavily into comfort and flexibility. The three-row, six-seat layout offers generous headroom and legroom, while the second-row captain seats come with powered armrests, ventilation, heating, and one-touch folding. The third row isn’t an afterthought either, featuring power recline and its own climate control. In short, even the “last row passenger” won’t feel like they drew the short straw.
Tesla has also focused on refining the driving experience. Acoustic glass, adaptive suspension, and electronically controlled damping aim to deliver a calm, composed ride—even on India’s occasionally “creative” road surfaces. The 19-inch Machina wheels and updated chassis further enhance grip and handling, ensuring the driver remains as happy as the passengers.
Tech, as expected, is where Tesla flexes hardest. The Model Y L comes loaded with live traffic visualization, satellite-view maps, and access to streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and Netflix. Yes, your SUV might now have a better entertainment setup than your living room—just don’t binge-watch while driving.
Tesla’s push into India isn’t just about the car; it’s also about the ecosystem. The company currently operates five Supercharger stations with 20 Superchargers and 14 Wall Connectors, with plans to expand further across key highway corridors connecting cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Meanwhile, its home charging program continues to enable convenient overnight charging for owners nationwide.
On the service front, Tesla is sticking to its direct-to-customer model, backed by OTA updates and remote diagnostics—meaning fewer service visits and more time enjoying the drive. Existing service centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune will soon be joined by new facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.
With deliveries set to begin in June 2026 and monthly payments starting at ₹49,000, the Model Y L positions itself as a compelling option in India’s growing luxury EV segment. And while it promises practicality for families, it also quietly reminds competitors that in Tesla’s world, even a family SUV can have a bit of attitude.
Because let’s be honest—school runs just got a lot more exciting.
