The Diesel Star Returns: Mercedes-Benz Unleashes the G 450d in India at INR 2.90 Crore

Pune — Mercedes-Benz India has just done what fans have been begging for: brought diesel back to the G-Class. With the launch of the all-new G 450d, the iconic off-roader now offers a complete trio of powertrains in India — diesel, petrol, and electric — making it a triple treat for every kind of G enthusiast, from the fuel purist to the silent EV evangelist.

And because Mercedes doesn’t do “ordinary,” the G 450d doesn’t just run on diesel — it redefines it. Packing a 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine that churns out 270 kW (362 hp) and a whopping 750 Nm of torque, this beast comes paired with 48V mild-hybrid tech that adds an extra 15 kW of assist. Result? 0–100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, and enough power to make mountain goats jealous.

The Legend, Now More Electrifying (and Diesel-y)

“The new G 450d underlines our commitment to offer diesel, petrol, and electric powertrains for the first time in India to the G-Class,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India. “The G 450d ensures Mercedes-Benz now has a G-Class for every customer requirement in India — further elevating practicality along with the cult status of this icon.”

Translation: whatever your fuel preference, there’s now a G-Class to match your personality — Diesel for the purist, Petrol for the performance addict, and Electric for the planet-saver who still wants to tower over hatchbacks at traffic lights.

Brawn Meets Brain: The Tech-Savvy Tank

Inside, the G 450d doesn’t just pamper you — it spoils you. The new MBUX NTG7 infotainment system brings augmented reality navigation, dual 12.3-inch displays, and more tech than an F1 telemetry center. The redesigned off-road cockpit displays compass, steering angle, altitude, tire pressure, and even a “Transparent Hood” view — because who doesn’t want X-ray vision on rocky trails?

Meanwhile, Manufaktur customization ensures your G-Class looks like your G-Class — whether you prefer “Deep Sea Blue” drama or “Desert Sand Matte” sophistication.

Add Burmester 3D Surround Sound with Dolby Atmos, Nappa leather interiors, ambient lighting, and acoustic glass insulation, and suddenly your off-road climb feels more like a symphony rehearsal in Stuttgart.

A Monster That Knows Manners

Despite its unapologetic power, the G 450d is impressively composed. Its adaptive adjustable damping, double wishbone suspension, and three differential locks keep it civilized on-road and invincible off-road. Gradeability? 100%. Water fording depth? 70 cm. Incline capability? 35°. Basically, if there’s a surface, it’ll conquer it — in comfort.

From the Autobahn to the Himalayas: Enter the G-Tribe Escapade

Because every legend needs an adventure, Mercedes-Benz is also launching “G-Tribe Escapades”, a new experiential drive series for select customers. The first expedition — in collaboration with Cougar Motorsport — will see owners drive from India to Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro (Bhutan) in a fleet of Mercedes SUVs, including the AMG G 63, G 580, EQS SUV, and GLS.

Expect scenic mountain passes, luxury pit stops, and enough Instagram content to make #Wanderlust jealous. Think of it as G-Class meets Into the Wild, but with heated seats and German precision.

Price, Exclusivity, and Cult Status

The Mercedes-Benz G 450d starts at ₹2.90 crore (ex-showroom) — and before you finish saying “ladder-frame,” all 50 exclusive units of its first batch will likely be spoken for. After all, this isn’t just a car; it’s a statement.

From the oil-stained heart of off-roading to the velvet-lined cabins of luxury, the G 450d continues the G-Class’s 45-year journey as the world’s most indestructible status symbol — one that’s now faster, smarter, and yes, cleaner too.
