Mladá Boleslav – Škoda Auto celebrated a robust global sales performance in 2024, delivering 926,600 vehicles worldwide, marking a 6.9% increase compared to 2023. However, the Indian market presented a stark contrast, with sales dropping by 26.3% to 36,000 units. The Czech automaker remains optimistic about its prospects in India, banking on the newly introduced Kylaq compact SUV to drive growth in the competitive sub-4-metre segment.
Globally, Škoda’s top-performing models included the Octavia, which maintained its crown as the best-seller with 215,700 units (+12.4% YoY), the Kamiq (126,000 units, +8.2%), and the Fabia, which witnessed a remarkable 24.1% YoY growth, selling 117,100 units. Meanwhile, demand for the all-electric Enyaq series remained solid, delivering 79,500 units, despite a slight decline of 2.6% compared to 2023.
Growth Driven by Europe, Strategic Focus on India
Škoda’s growth was primarily fueled by its European markets, with Germany leading the charge at 187,100 deliveries, an increase of 29,200 units from the previous year. Significant gains were also recorded in Türkiye, the UK, Poland, and Spain.
In India, the situation was different, with economic challenges and changing market dynamics impacting Škoda’s performance. To regain momentum, Škoda is pinning its hopes on the Kylaq compact SUV, specifically designed for the Indian market. Targeting the sub-4-metre segment, which accounts for nearly half of all car sales in the country, the Kylaq is expected to attract budget-conscious buyers without compromising on quality or features.
Expanding International Presence
Škoda’s international strategy extends beyond India. In 2025, the company will start assembling vehicles at its new plant in Vietnam, beginning with the Kushaq and later the Slavia, leveraging synergies with its Indian manufacturing network. Additionally, Kazakhstan emerged as a promising market, with Škoda delivering over 1,400 vehicles after re-entering the region.
A Vision for the Future
Entering its 130th year, Škoda Auto is preparing to unleash its most comprehensive product portfolio yet. The launch of the all-electric Elroq compact SUV, priced at €33,000 in select markets, signals Škoda’s push to democratize electric mobility. Combined with the updated Enyaq and the India-focused Kylaq, Škoda aims to strengthen its foothold in both developed and emerging markets.
CEO Klaus Zellmer highlighted Škoda’s resilience amidst volatile market conditions:
“Our strategy of offering diverse powertrain options—from petrol and diesel to hybrids and EVs—has resonated with customers globally. The launch of the Kylaq in India is a pivotal step in our internationalization strategy, and with our 2024 achievements, we’re well-positioned for 2025 and beyond.”
As Škoda continues to innovate and expand, the company remains committed to adapting its offerings to meet the diverse needs of its global customers, setting the stage for another landmark year.
