Gurugram: MG Select, the luxury retail channel of JSW MG Motor India, has introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership programme for the MG Cyberster electric roadster and MG M9 luxury MPV, allowing customers to separate the cost of the vehicle from that of its battery.
Under the introductory programme, the MG Cyberster is priced at ₹72.49 lakh plus a battery rental charge of ₹8 per kilometre, while the MG M9 is available at ₹69.99 lakh plus ₹8 per kilometre for the battery.
The move extends MG’s battery-rental ownership model into its premium electric vehicle portfolio and is aimed at giving luxury EV buyers another way of structuring the upfront cost of ownership.
Instead of paying for the vehicle and battery together at the time of purchase, customers opting for BaaS pay a lower vehicle price and subsequently pay for battery usage based on kilometres driven.
For buyers accustomed to luxury-car pricing being largely settled at the showroom, the kilometre-based component adds a slightly different calculation to the ownership equation.
MG Cyberster: Electric Performance With 510 PS
The MG Cyberster is a two-seat electric roadster inspired by the classic MGB Roadster, combining a low-slung sports-car profile with a dual-motor electric powertrain.
The all-wheel-drive setup produces 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque, enabling the Cyberster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in around 3.2 seconds.
Its design incorporates electric scissor doors, a cockpit-style cabin and a low roofline, positioning the model as MG Select’s performance-focused offering.
By extending BaaS to the Cyberster, MG is effectively applying a battery-rental concept more commonly associated with mainstream electric mobility to a high-performance sports car — proof that even dramatic doors can apparently coexist with practical financing arithmetic.
MG M9 Targets Luxury MPV Buyers
The MG M9, meanwhile, is positioned as a premium electric MPV focused on chauffeur-driven and executive travel.
Its cabin features Presidential Seats with 16-way adjustment, eight massage modes, ventilation and heating, with several functions controlled through an Intelligent Arm Rest.
Other equipment includes a yacht-style dual sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and a 13-speaker audio system.
Safety equipment includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a Driver Monitoring System and seven airbags. According to the company, the M9 also carries five-star Euro NCAP and ANCAP safety ratings.
MG Select Network Expands Luxury EV Reach
MG Select currently operates 15 Experience Centres across 14 cities in India, providing dedicated retail spaces for the Cyberster and M9.
The company describes the centres as gallery-inspired facilities designed around its ‘Reimagining Luxury’ philosophy, with the network serving as the primary customer touchpoint for its premium electric models.
The addition of Battery-as-a-Service to the Cyberster and M9 reflects a broader effort by automakers to experiment with alternative EV ownership models as battery costs remain a significant part of an electric vehicle’s purchase price. For luxury buyers, the decision will ultimately come down to whether separating battery costs from the vehicle makes financial sense for their individual driving patterns — adding another variable to a segment where horsepower, comfort and technology have traditionally done most of the talking.
