MG Cyberster Ignites Demand in India — 350 Sold, 5-Month Wait, Zero Petrol Required

Gurgaon: India’s love affair with speed just got a silent, electrifying upgrade. JSW MG Motor India announced that its flagship electric roadster, the MG Cyberster, has become the country’s most sought-after sportscar—so popular that you can’t simply buy one; you must strategically wait 4–5 months to get it. In the world of sportscars, that’s basically a badge of honour.

Launched in July this year, the Cyberster hasn’t just broken stereotypes—it has broken sales floors. With over 350 units already delivered through MG Select, the brand’s luxury retail channel, the Cyberster has achieved the unthinkable: topping sportscar sales in a market traditionally dominated by turbocharged petrol and “bro, it makes so much noise” bragging rights. Turns out, the only noise buyers are chasing in 2025 is the sound of air cutting at 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Milind Shah, Head of MG Select, summed it up perfectly: “The phenomenal response to the Cyberster from sportscar enthusiasts has been extraordinary, particularly due to its striking design language and innovative features—including the iconic electric scissor doors and impressive acceleration from 0–100 in just 3.2 seconds.” Translation: India finally has a sportscar that opens like a Lamborghini, accelerates like a track monster, and charges like your smartphone—minus the heat.

But the Cyberster’s popularity isn’t just about stats. According to Shah, it taps into the mindset of “New India”—entrepreneurs, creators, athletes, and actors who want sustainable luxury with cutting-edge engineering. MG Select has responded by curating ownership experiences that go well beyond the keys—private events, sensory showcases, and lifestyle immersion. Not just a car. A character arc.

The Roadster That Brought Back the Roadster Dream

Rooted in the spirit of the iconic MGB Roadster, the Cyberster blends nostalgia with what can only be described as sci-fi aggression. A sculpted silhouette, electric scissor doors, a soft-top roof, razor-sharp DRLs, and a Kammback rear with active aero turn heads before the accelerator even touches the floor. Brembo 4-piston brakes bring the car from 100 km/h to 0 in just 33 meters—perfect for those moments when the speed meets Indian traffic reality.

Under the hood (or rather, under the electrons), a dual-motor AWD setup pumps out 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque—numbers that used to live exclusively on European spec sheets and teenagers’ Instagram bios. Pair that with 20-inch staggered alloys and Pirelli P-Zero tyres, and you have an EV that behaves less like an appliance and more like a rocket with headlights.

The MG Cyberster is priced at ₹74.99 lakh, positioning it in a bracket where “electric” and “two-door roadster” usually exist only in concept videos.

Electric Royalty: Cyberster + M9

The Cyberster isn’t a lone wolf in MG’s luxury playbook. JSW MG Motor India is now the second-largest brand in the country’s luxury EV segment, thanks to the one-two punch of the Cyberster and the MG M9 Presidential Limousine—an SUV that looks ready to transport state leaders and Bollywood royalty in equal measure.

And there’s a stage designed just for them: the company has opened 14 MG Select Experience Centres across key cities. Part gallery, part showroom, part luxury club—they’re spaces where potential buyers can explore not just the Cyberster, but MG’s evolving premium identity.

From cinema stars to motorsport aficionados, India’s taste in sports cars is changing. Petrol nostalgia is making space for electrons, aero-design, and futuristic gullwings. With the Cyberster, MG hasn’t just launched a vehicle—it has launched a vibe.

And the vibe, as the waiting list suggests, isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
