Mumbai — India’s electric mobility journey just got a jolt of caffeine. Mahindra Charge_IN has officially switched on its first 180 kW ultra-fast charging stations, kicking off a nationwide push that aims to install 250 stations with 1000 high-speed charging points by the end of 2027. For EV owners tired of staring blankly at slow chargers while their snacks run out, Mahindra’s message is simple: Range anxiety is so 2021.
Underpinning this vision is Charge_IN’s mission to Unlimit electric mobility—a philosophy that turns EVs from city-bound toys into long-distance travel companions. With the Indian government doubling down on strengthening public EV infrastructure, Mahindra’s move is neither timid nor symbolic. It’s a nationwide blueprint for a rapid-charging ecosystem that acknowledges a simple truth: Indians love highways. And chai. And doing Delhi to Jaipur in one go.

The network kicks off with two flagship stations—Hoskote on NH75 (Bengaluru–Chennai) and Murthal on NH44 (near Delhi). Each station packs two 180 kW dual-gun chargers, meaning up to four EVs can juice up simultaneously. Murthal, already famous for making parathas heavier than your gym dumbbells, now adds “EV pitstop” to its resume.
“What makes electric mobility real is confidence,” said Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Executive Director, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd. “Our XEV 9e and BE 6 SUVs already deliver nearly 500 km real-world range. With Charge_IN, long-distance electric travel becomes effortless, reliable—just like conventional driving. The charging network will be open to all EV users to accelerate India’s transition to sustainable mobility.”
The Charge_IN network features only 180 kW chargers, a bold decision in a market where many stations still resemble glorified wall sockets. Mahindra claims these chargers can boost its eSUV family—XEV 9e, BE 6 and upcoming XEV 9S—from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. That’s barely enough time to stretch, scroll through Instagram, or argue with friends over who forgot toll cash.
Highways take center stage in the Charge_IN rollout. Stations will be built at locations with high traveler footfall, and more importantly, natural pitstops — restaurants, service stations, and cafés. Imagine this: your EV charges from 20 to 80% while you finish a cappuccino, instead of a whole Netflix season.
Accessibility is another key pillar. Mahindra EV owners get seamless integration via the Me4U app, which allows users to discover, charge, and pay. Non-Mahindra EV owners aren’t left out—the “Charge_IN by Mahindra” app and leading aggregator platforms ensure the network welcomes all electric brands. In fact, customers can already access ~34,000 public charging points across multiple Charge Point Operators through Me4U.
In a market where “fast charging” often means “go grab dinner and maybe breakfast,” Mahindra’s Charge_IN is positioning itself as India’s EV backbone—high-speed, highway-ready, and unapologetically ambitious. If the plan succeeds, the classic road trip pitstop might soon be less about petrol pumps and more about plugged-in power.
