Mumbai:
In a move that sounds like a plot twist only corporate lawyers could write, Tata Motors Limited — the newly christened avatar of TML Commercial Vehicles Limited — has officially clarified that it’s still Tata Motors at heart… just with a fresh post-demerger identity. The company, which now independently represents Tata’s mighty commercial vehicle business, made its grand re-entry to the stock exchanges today, inviting investors to trade under its shiny new (and legally precise) name: Tata Motors Limited (Formerly known as TML Commercial Vehicles Limited).

To be clear — and Tata Motors really wants everyone to be clear — the name “Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles” or “TMLCV” no longer exists. Those aliases belong in the past, alongside outdated Tata 407 brochures and 90s truck ads. From today, the correct title is Tata Motors Limited — and if you must add something for context, “(Commercial Vehicles)” in brackets will do nicely.
A Legal Engine Rebuilt with Precision
The transition follows a Composite Scheme of Arrangement sanctioned by the Hon’ble NCLT, Mumbai, which officially took effect on October 1, 2025. The scheme essentially gave Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle division its own road to glory, separating it from the passenger vehicle business and allowing both to accelerate independently — think of it as two perfectly tuned engines running parallel on separate tracks.
Under the scheme:
- The Commercial Vehicle Business from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Limited was transferred to the now-renamed Tata Motors Limited (formerly TML Commercial Vehicles Limited).
- Shareholders received 1:1 equity shares, with a grand total of 3,68,23,31,373 shares issued, each with a face value of ₹2.
- The newly minted shares are now listed and trading under the T Group of Securities on the BSE, under a trade-for-trade segment for the first ten days. (Because even shares need a bit of a running-in period.)
Corporate Identity: Now with Turbocharged Clarity
The official registered office remains at Bombay House, 24 Homi Mody Street, Mumbai, a site that has seen more automotive history than most museums. The Company Secretary and Compliance Officer, Sudipto Kumar Das, is now officially the keeper of all things name-related — ensuring no one ever mistakenly types “TMCV” again.
In a friendly yet firm message to the media, Tata Motors politely requested journalists and stakeholders to update any previous references to the outdated company name. (Translation: Please stop calling it TMLCV, or we might have to send another clarification longer than a truck chassis.)
The Business Drive Ahead
With its new nameplate polished and ready, Tata Motors Limited (CV) is set to drive forward independently, representing India’s most iconic lineup of trucks and buses — from the workhorse Tata 407 to the cutting-edge Signa and Prima series.
And while the passenger vehicle sibling zooms ahead with EVs and SUVs, this branch of Tata Motors continues to carry India’s logistics, industries, and livelihoods on its back — quite literally.
So, if you spot a Tata truck on the highway, just remember:
it’s not “TMLCV” or “TMCV” anymore — it’s Tata Motors Limited (Formerly known as TML Commercial Vehicles Limited), rolling strong, legal, and unmistakably Tata.
