Renault’s Iconic Twingo Returns: An Electric Reimagining Set for Paris Debut

Renault is set to unveil the Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype at the upcoming Paris Motor Show from October 14 to 20, 2024. The show car pays homage to the original Twingo, blending the spirit of the 1992 classic with modern, eco-friendly technology designed for urban mobility.

The Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype serves as a preview of the production model scheduled for release in 2026. With a starting price below €20,000, Renault aims to make electric mobility more accessible, expanding its electric vehicle lineup that includes the Renault 5 E-Tech, Renault 4 E-Tech, Megane E-Tech, and Scenic E-Tech.

Modern Nostalgia: A Tribute to the Original

Renault’s original Twingo, launched in 1992, became an emblem of playful, practical urban driving. Known for its bold colors and innovative design, it embodied Renault’s philosophy of “les voitures à vivre” — cars designed to enhance everyday life. The Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype brings back this legacy with a modern twist, reimagined for today’s electric era.

Design Highlights: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation

The Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype retains the compact size and agility that made its predecessor a city-friendly favorite. With its five-door layout, it offers practicality while maintaining its monovolume silhouette. A fixed glass roof floods the interior with light, creating a spacious and airy atmosphere, a nod to Renault’s philosophy of comfort and livability.

Inspired by the original, the prototype’s design features include playful, floating LED headlamp rings, reminiscent of the iconic round headlamps that gave the first Twingo its endearing face. The rear design, updated with modern touches like a black rim around the windshield and protruding LED taillights, evokes the charm of the classic model while emphasizing its high-tech appeal.

A Familiar Face with Modern Charm

The expressive front of the Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype showcases a friendly, familiar look, drawing from the original’s design language. Its rounded headlamps, inspired by the 1992 model, give the vehicle a distinctive character while integrating advanced LED technology for a futuristic feel.

The interior continues the theme of openness and light, thanks to the expansive glass roof. The rebooted door handles, featuring a circular illuminated rim, are another nostalgic element modernized for today’s tastes.

Honoring Heritage with a Contemporary Twist

The Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype doesn’t shy away from its heritage. The bonnet features three small openings — not for ventilation but as a tribute to the design elements of the past. Every detail serves to bridge the gap between Renault’s classic legacy and its electric future.

As Renault’s vision for the next-generation Twingo unfolds, the E-Tech Electric prototype marks the evolution of a beloved icon, keeping the spirit of urban mobility alive while paving the way for an affordable electric future.
