Lexus has introduced its first all-electric vehicle, the UX 300e with the aim to deliver an electrified driving experience which is unique to the brand. The car has been built with utmost craftsmanship to provide a dynamic as well as quiet riding familiarity all within a luxury electric car interior. Following its ideal of ‘Lexus Electrified’, they have created a car that included both fun and a wholly electric drive. The UX 300e was launched in early 2019 and has since sold over 30,000 pieces. Its BEV drivetrain gives an output of 150 kW, and makes it even more of a beast when combined with Lexus’ Global Architecture Compact (GA-C) platform. Made with the masterful ‘Takumi’ craftsmanship, every UX 300e SUV model will be built at the award-winning Kyushu plant and embraces traditional Japanese techniques in its bodywork. With the growing demand of good BEVs and a developed charging infrastructure, Europe has presented itself as a crucial marketplace for selling this vehicle. The exterior encompasses the Lexus design from its grille and roofline to lighting.

The customers can also choose between 17” and 18” wheels as per their driving tastes. Features like aerodynamic shutters have increased the aerodynamics of this car and its exceptional Japanese design revolves around the driver’s comfort, for instance the drive selector which applies the ‘shift-by-wire’ technology. Keeping the urban-scape in mind, it is easy to manoeuvre in tight urban streets and takes less park-space due to its 2.640 mm wheelbase. It works on a lithium-ion battery providing optimal performance, and its all-electric body also includes AC charger, ports, electric motor, inverter, PCU, regenerative braking and transaxle which combined give it a top speed of 160 km/h. Its motor gives it a linear acceleration while the paddle shifters help in decelerating through four levels. The transaxle keeps the noise minimum while its motor/generator minimizes power consumption. Its Power Control Unit checks the current flow and the air-cooling system keeps both the cabin and batteries cool.

UX 300e also has an all-out battery system including a heating system and a seamless charging tech where batteries can be recharged with AC chargers at home or with DC chargers while on the move. Its rigid chassis, shock absorbers, advanced brakes and tyres, lesser NVH intensity and active sound control add even more to the Lexus’ Electrified driving experience. Not only does it provide an electrified driving experience, it also offers an unmatched ownership experience to make it easy to own and more accessible. This is assisted by its ‘Omotenashi’ service philosophy making use of the ‘Lexus Link’ app to find charging stations, car position, driving routes and analytics, and remote charging, defrosting as well as air conditioning. Keeping customer safety at the top, Lexus has incorporated the UX 300e with its second gen Lexus Safety System + which includes cruise control, pre-collision system, pedestrian detection and so much more to reduce chances of any fatal incidents.
