The Triber is a unique car in the sub 10 lakh segment and manages to seat 7 people comfortably in a body that is less than 4 metres.

French automaker Renault launched the Triber MPV in 2019 to be placed as a cheaper alternative to the Maruti Ertiga and take on the hatchbacks and Sub-4-metre-SUVs below the INR 10 Lakh mark. The car is based on the CMF-A platform of Renault but only shares about 10% parts with other Renault and Nissan vehicles (Nissan is a partner of Renault in technology sharing). The car benefits from the tax structure being below 4 metres in length while incorporating 3 rows of seats.

1. Design

The Triber features the signature Renault design with the triple slatted grille and adjoining headlamps. But because the designers had to make the engine bay drastically small, the car could only fit a 1 litre petrol unit and no diesel due to its size. The car features a raised stance and black plastic cladding all around that gives it a more muscular and SUVish look.

2. Interiors

The selling point of the Triber is the space, the car has three row seating and the middle row is wide enough to fit three adults, this was made possible by making the car wide, almost as wide as C-segment cars. The roofline of the car is raised at the rear to provide headroom for the 3rd row. The last row can also be folded down to make space for luggage if the need arises along with the 2nd row which makes the car extremely versatile.

3. Features

The car has AC vents for all the three rows which is a treat for the 3rd row passengers, a cooled storage box, and an 8 inch infotainment system with navigation and Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay, a LED display for the instruments cluster, an upper as well as lower glove box for storage. The car comes with a smart access card, push button start, and other features.

4. Engine

The Triber is powered by a 1 litre three cylinder unit that makes 72 PS and 96 Nm of torque. It comes with dual VVT and provides ample power and fuel efficiency. The engine is suited to Indian needs and is available with a 5-speed automatic or an Easy-R AMT transmission. The Easy-R 5-speed AMT is a new feature that has been added and is keeping in mind the growing popularity of the Automatic transmission in India. A turbocharged engine option is also expected to join later.

5. Price

The car is available in RXE, RXL, RXT and RXZ variants with the Easy-R AMT not available on the RXE. It is priced from INR 5.2 Lakhs to INR 7.5 Lakhs (Prices for New Delhi).

The Triber is Renaults attempt at gaining on the segment, with a totally new package. The car is big, spacious and offers almost all the features one expects in this price range, it competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki Eeco and Datsun GO+ between all those Triber is quite uniquely placed.
