Elon Musk and Nitin Gadkari( Union Minister for Road and Highways) have confirmed that Tesla will come to India in 2021.
Tesla, one of the most awaited brands in India has finally confirmed that it will come to the country and start selling cars. Confirming the news Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that Tesla will be coming here early 2021, “India is going to become a number 1 manufacturing hub for auto in five years,” This is following a tweet by Tesla CEO Elon Musk wherein he said that Tesla will come to India in 2021.
The Minister also mentioned how the Government is pushing actively towards manufacture and sale of electrically powered vehicles. Explaining how several companies are attempting to make said vehicles here, which will eventually be released and will keep getting more affordable for the Indian buyer in a few years. Mentioning the American Automaker Tesla, he confirmed that they will start operations by 2021, and will eventually start assembling here too.
A fan page of Tesla enthusiasts, called the Tesla Club India has been at the forefront of getting the information out and even directly corresponding with Elon Musk himself. It was their tweet that the Billionaire replied to, and another one of their tweets to which he responded,“ Will release order configurator probably in Jan”- the order configurator is the web based ordering system which enables interested buyers to configure their Tesla the way they want it.
It is expected that the Model 3, the world’s best selling electric car till date will be the one to be introduced here first. The model 3 is the cheapest car in Tesla’s stable and comes in three variants, the standard, the Lond Range and the Performance. The Rear-Wheel drive Long range model is a beast at acceleration with 5.1 seconds to the hundred mark, with the performance being even faster. The Long range has a range of 568 kilometers while the standard model has a range of 354 kilometers. These figures have made Tesla the most popular EV brand in the world and a pioneer at pushing the technology forward.
Presently Tesla does not plan to manufacture or assemble in India, but rather ship in CBU-Complete Built Up cars here and has plans for a later development in the assembling and manufacturing. This is one of the best news that car fans have heard this year, Tesla, possibly if not the greatest Electric car maker in the world is going to come to India. Further models like the Model X SUV may be released later on. The Tesla Model 3 is expected to be priced at INR 55 Lakhs.
ELON TESLA INDIA UPDATE – Kinda confusing, but seems like configurator won’t be opening in January. But Tesla will definitely be in India next year.
