With a bid to strengthen its foothold in the country, MG will be introducing its most affordable offering for India soon.
Morris Garages might be finally introducing a new vehicle into its Indian lineup, and it is one we have seen before but slightly different. It is the MG ZS which is currently sold here as an electric vehicle but will be soon available in a conventionally powered petrol option, and concrete evidence in the form of photographs of the car road testing has been accessed by NamasteCar which suggests that the vehicle might soon be launched.
Visually the ZS is similar to the EV, but exact differences may be revealed later as there will be some to differentiate it from the electric version. The SUV is stylish indeed, featuring a fresh take on the design in the segment, it comes with LED DRLs and the signature MG mesh grille, if we go by the version sold in the United Kingdom, then the tail lamp LED cluster is very unique and something to look forward to. The stance of the vehicle is tilted towards being a sized up hatchback rather than an SUV like its sibling, the Hector is but it does mean it could spice up the competition for vehicles like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
Internally the ZS is an exciting machine, if the spy shots are of the production model then it will come with a 10 inch infotainment screen, and an otherwise tastefully designed interior in black with aluminium color inserts. If the UK design is completely followed through here, then the interiors are a match for the best in the segment and offer a good quality cabin, the infotainment screen will come with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
The petrol variant is expected to arrive in two versions- a 1.5 litre unit and a 1 litre turbocharged unit that are available with manual as well as automatic transmissions. The 1.5 litre engine makes 106 PS of power while the 1 litre Turbo makes 111 PS of power. Currently the information on the powertrain is undetermined and we will have for MG to make the official announcements before confirming the details.
The MG ZS Petrol was spotted testing in Agra with a MG Hector providing company, the vehicle was camouflaged but the pictures do confirm that the exterior is almost identical to the EV and the interiors do carry over the big screen and quality interiors. The car is expected to be priced from INR 10 Lakhs to INR 17 Lakhs and rival the likes of the Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos.
