MG Motor, the UK’s fastest-growing car company extends its line-up with the addition of two more economical and practical electric cars to its growing range, providing electric cars for all. Alongside the booming MG ZS EV and on-sale from 22 September 2020, the new MG5 EV and MG HS plug-ins are believed to assist MG hit a turning point in 2021, with plug-in vehicles responsible for more than 50 percent of overall sales of UK’s MG Motor. MG is further improving its position as the go-to brand for conventional, reliable electric cars, with a choice of three plug-in vehicles.
MG and the fully electric vehicle are brought into an entirely different business sector by the Brand New MG5 EV, whilst the MG HS Plug-in is a prominent quality, high-value C-segment SUV with a PHEV powertrain and impressive standard equipment.
Exclusive in the Britain’s EV market, the All New MG5 EV, is providing the versatility and convenience of a comfortable estate car with fantastic driving stability and almost no exhaust emissions. In addition to MG ZS EV and the latest MG HS Plug-in, which together are projected to account for over half of MG’s UK sales in 2021, the MG5 EV is the right complement to MG’s steadily expanding electric car range.
All New MG5 EV comes with a 7 year / 80,000 mile full-transferable warranty as usual, like all MG models. With a 52.5kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack that can be charged from zero to 80 percent in only 50 minutes using a quick charger, it is powered by a 115kW electric motor, offering acceleration of 0-60 mph in just over eight seconds. In day-to-day use, the MG5 EV has a WLTP-approved combined range of 214 miles which increases up to 276 miles if the car is exclusively used for urban commuting.
After the Plug-In Vehicle Grant (currently £3,000), rates start at just £24,495 and consumers can benefit from a 0 percent Benefit-in-Kind tax during the tax year 2020-21, or 1 percent in 2021-22. There are 464 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and load cover in place which can be increased up to 1456 litres by dropping the 60:40 folding seat back.
MG HS Plug-in
With a high value entry price of £ 29,995, the latest MG HS Plug-in SUV goes on sale in October and introduces a new layer to the electrified drivetrain line-up of MG, improving on the fame and performance of the MG ZS EV.
Using the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine of the new model operating in combination with a 90kW electric motor to have an EV-only range of 32 miles with zero tailpipe emissions, it becomes the first MG vehicle to feature a Plug-in Hybrid drivetrain. The electric and petrol motors together produce a total power output of 258PS, which also gives it an efficiency advantage. It has the potential to rapidly accelerate in 6.9 seconds from 0-60 mph.
The petrol engine’s power is directed into a six-speed automatic gearbox, whereas a four-speed electronic control mechanism converts power through the electric motor. Together, they combine to offer 10 electronically controlled gear ratios that often provide the optimum mix of gears, retaining emissions as low as possible, enhancing driver comfort and performance.
In EV-only mode car gives a range of up to 32 miles but in hybrid mode the range is limitless, making it ideal for longer journeys. The MG HS Plug-in can be charged from zero to 100 percent in just three hours using a Type 2 fast charger.
The high-tech driver assistance suite called MG Pilot, which is carried over from the 5 star Euro NCAP classified petrol version, is one of the main features of the MG HS Plug-in and comes as standard.
