The E-Class is a German classic, and with the V6 powering the very comfortable air suspension car, it is far superior to anything in this price segment or beyond.
The budget hatchback segment is filled with a number of cars, and if you are aiming at the lower end of it which is around 3-4 Lakhs then you have the Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto and the Datsun Redi-Go. But if one is looking for a used vehicle, then the options increase considerably, and one such amazing option is a Mercedes-Benz E-Class which is a 2004 model and is selling at a literal percent of its original price tag.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the most widely known cars around the world, especially the W211 model which was sold from 2002 to 2009 mainly because of its distinctive dual-oval headlamps and a long body, something that the other German counterparts during those years were in heavy competition with. It was larger than the previous generation E-Class. It even featured electro hydraulic braking as standard, multicontour seats, and dual air suspension.
This Mercedes is the E 270 model, and is powered by a 3 litre V6 that makes 198 PS of power, now because the car is 16 years old there has to be some loss in power, but the V6 is milled by expert German engineers. The quality of the make is so high, that the car would retain most of its power if serviced properly through its life. This one is a RWD model and has a 7-speed automatic transmission.
Some of the other features of this E-Class are the rain sensing wipers, alloys, tinted glass, sun roof, rear window defogger, electronically folding mirrors, electronic seats and others. One must not forget that this car was the gold-standard of a business sedan all over the globe, and features one of the most comfortable cabins. Compare that with any other car at this price point, and the Merc is many times better.
So the choice is between this Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which despite being a very old car still holds respect when it moves on the road. The appeal of this business sedan is very high, owing to its looks which are contemporary Mercedes and has been kept in more-or-less mint condition. This car is being sold in Mumbai for a price tag of just INR 3.22 Lakhs, while a new E-Class will put you back by INR 75-92 Lakhs.
