Nissan Maxima is the Japanese automaker’s longest continually running model in the United States, which debuted in 1981, Nissan has thought that their Four door sports car and its fans should receive a congratulatory present, the 2021 Nissan Maxima 40th anniversary edition.
The 40th anniversary edition packs a unique two-tone Ruby slate gray body color with contrasting black roof, Black finishes throughout the exterior including the exclusive 19 inch black wheels and black exhaust finishers and 40th anniversary badging. 40th anniversary embossed on leather seating, red accents, Dark chrome finishers and to honour the history of the Maxima, white speedometer and tachometer-a feature from older models. The special features of the edition are limited to color and design changes only and the powertrain and suspension remain untouched.
The 2021 Nissan Maxima will be powered by a 3.5L DOHC V6 churning out 300hp and Xtronic transmission and will be available in three models in addition to the anniversary edition. Maxima has been known as the staple “4-door Sports Car” for a majority of its four decade run. The car has its humble beginnings when it started out as a Datsun 810 in 1981. Maxima then featured as a full model under its own name, borrowing an engine from the 240Z and an industry leading 5-speed manual. The next generation introduced the V6 and front wheel drive to the segment in 85’. The third generation, powered by 160HP 3l V6 came to its true colors as the 4 door sports car and was known to be the most affordable and held its own against european sports sedans.
Fourth generation saw more upgrades to the design with better engine and new body, subsequently won several awards including Motor Trends’ Import car of the year. Further generations followed which added better engines and the standard luxurious leather interiors and aggressive styling to match the sedans sportier approach. Today the Maxima comes with diamond quilted Ascot leather seats, Maple wood finishes and 11-speaker Bose audio system and is a standard name in the segment which speaks luxury and performance.
Maxima has been awarded the top vehicle in Large car segment of JD power Initial Quality study for the third year running, J D Power’s APEAL study large car category for the third year and a five year running Insurance Institute for Highway safety’s Top Safety Pick rating. All these awards lay testimony to the sedan’s quality and prowess in the segment that it absolutely dominates, and for four decades has remained faithful to its roots as a true performance sedan.
