It is always delightful when an automaker does something out of style for their vehicles. But When Lexus walked out of its luxury comfort zone and unleashed the epic updated Lexus LS 500h, nobody complained. In fact, the motoring fraternity was assured that Lexus will deliver a successor. For now, Lexus is still celebrating the mastery with the introduction of a new variant of the Japanese marque’s flagship sedan in India; named the Nishijin.

What is new about this 2021 Lexus LS 500h?

Lexus LS has been a flagship sedan for the automaker and has remained popular for over 30 years and in 90 countries. The new and updated Lexus LS 500h comes with many advanced features that highlight sleek lines and build of the car with a new ‘Gin-ei-Luster’ color shade which is ethereal in its look and appeal, a black insert below the headlamps and tail-lamps, and an updated front bumper.

Lexus has introduced a new variant called the Nishijin with the launch of the updated LS 500h, which emphasizes tangible changes, highlighting traditional Japanese arts. This variant features ‘Nishijin & Haku’ decorative components on the inside of the vehicle, which are inspired by the natural phenomenon where moonlight creates a long, thin path on the surface of the ocean during, a few days after, or before the full moon night.

According to Lexus, the beautiful Nishijin & Haku is created by weaving silver strands of ‘Nishijin’ brocade in the sort of waves and then employing a thin ‘Haku’ platinum sheet to produce a similar vibe of moonlight gleaming on waves.

On the interior front, Lexus has uplifted the center console and control on the steering wheel for enhanced visibility. While a new switch on the center console checks the heated steering and heated seat, the 12.3-inch screen of the LS 500h with great infotainment and connectivity with add-ons such as and SmartDeviceLink, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay,

The car is fitted with a rear-view mirror that comes up with a digital display and seat cushioning that proves to be more comfortable with vibration damping along with the LS’s claims of a backseat that lies up to 48 degrees with optional elongated footrests. Lively noise cancellation is standard which proves to a great advantage, especially in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Engine and powertrain details

While the changes to the 2021 Lexus LS 500h are subtle, they have been keenly concentrated on precise engine and specs elements that do make an actual difference. On the performance front, it stars a hybrid powertrain, with a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine aided by two electric motors for a power output of 354hp. Power is conveyed to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Adding to it, Lexus also claims a top speed of 250kph and 0-100 kph time of 5.4sec.


The LS 500h is specialized in advanced components that make you feel like a real monstrous engine and not just an expensive Lexus machine. Well, it is available at a starting cost of INR 1,91,32,000 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi) in India. In addition, the Nishijin variant can cost you at INR 2,22,09,000 crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
