Lennep drove the Porsche 917 in 1971 to a win, and set a distance record that stood for four decades, Porsche honors the Dutch driver with this unique 911.
Porsche has delivered a rare one-off 911 to the legendary Dutch racing driver Gijs Van Lennep, the two time Le Mans winner. The Dutchman competed in almost every motor racing format possible, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Formula 5000, the Targa Florio and even the Formula 1. Known widely as the Best Dutch racing driver of the twentieth century the man has a legacy that surpasses many champions today. As Lennep was one of the prolific drivers that made Porsche the racing force it is today and also serves as its brand ambassador the German carmaker decided to give him something quite unique.
The 911 Carerra S is the present he got, and it is not mere 911, it has the Legendary driver’s thumbprint on the hood, making it one-of-a-kind. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of his first Le Mans victory, wherein he drove alongside Helmut Marko and set a distance record that stood as pillar of German automotive engineering till 2010. “ I think it’s very special that Porsche Netherlands is honouring me with this unique 911. You can’t get much more personal than a car bearing your own fingerprint.” said Lennep.
In addition to the large thumbprint on the hood the car also features Lennep’s signature on the door sills. The car has Adaptive sport seats plus, with the contrast stitching mimicking the bright Lava Orange exterior. A special material called the Sport-Tex fabric is used on the seats, while Race-Tex, a microfibre material which is made out of recycled polyester has been used to wrap the steering and the roof lining. The fingerprint on the hood has been achieved by using a direct-printing tech instead of film, which Porsche backs as being a much better method. Custom kits including, exclusive tail lights, carbon-fiber roof, Turbo sport design package and the aerokit spoiler have also been added to this Porsche.
The 911 Carrera S has more power than the standard Carrera and stands below the 4S, Turbo and race models in terms of performance, but the S stands for Sports and the Porsche clearly delivers in the area, the standard 3L Six-Cylinder boxer engine which is twin turbocharged which makes 450hp and 530Nm of torque. The Carrera S is a rear-wheel drive model and uses the eight-speed PDK gearbox. The acceleration to a hundred takes 3.5 seconds and will go all the way up to 308 kmph. The addition of the aero kit ensures superior track performance, creating further downforce.
The 911 Carrera S starts at INR 1.8 crore in India, with the addition of the several options that the one-off car has the price would easily shoot up to near INR 3 crore.
