- The Hyundai i30 N with Performance Package option achieved victory in the compact class for the second time in a row
- The win represented a clear success for Hyundai in the readers’ choice award of the magazine Sport Auto
- The new Hyundai i30 N, which recently underwent a product enhancement, will be on sale in Europe starting in early 2021
For the second time in a row, the company’s popular high-performance vehicle received the monthly magazine Sport Auto’s prestigious award in the category “Production cars compact class up to 35,000 Euro – import”.
The overall goal of Hyundai i30 N is fun to drive. It is the first high-performance model that brought the company’s racetrack experience onto the street. When we launched the i30 N three years ago, the first 100 units sold out in two days in Germany, and the success story continued from there. This second Sport Auto Award proves once more that we really meet the desires of our customers by delivering a thrilling driving experience for everyday life.
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing & Product at Hyundai Motor Europe
The special value of the Sport Auto Award is that readers determine the winners. With an overwhelming 66 per cent of the votes, the Hyundai i30 N with the Performance Package option emerged as the clear winner in its category against well-known and established competitors this year.
The prize is awarded for the 28th time in 2020. This year, 230 sports cars were nominated, and almost 13,000 readers took part in the vote.
Sporty successor available from spring 2021
Since its market launch in 2017, the Hyundai i30 N has sold more than 26,700 units in Europe. Now it has been enhanced, and it will soon hit the road, with sales starting in Europe in early 2021.
The design of the new Hyundai i30 N is even more focused on performance and emotion. It features a wide centre grille, new LED headlights with V-shaped daytime running lights, a large wing spoiler at the rear, and new 19-inch forged alloy wheels. Inside, a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system and N Light Seats with an illuminated N logo are available for the first time in this hot hatch.
The new i30 N with the Performance Package option delivers more power (206 kW/280 PS instead of 202 kW/275 PS) and more torque (392 Nm instead of 353 Nm) as compared to the previous model. This results not only in optimised response behaviour of the four-cylinder turbo engine, but also in better acceleration. The latest version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than its predecessor. In addition, the sporty two-litre petrol engine can be combined with a six-speed manual transmission (6MT) or the newly-developed N DCT, an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. With the standard trim, the new i30 N with 6MT delivers a maximum power output of 250 PS and a maximum torque of 353 Nm. New active safety and driver assistance functions from Hyundai SmartSense, such as a Lane Following Assistant and an active Blind Spot Assist, complete the enhanced i30 N.
