Honda America has released its latest iteration of its entry level multipurpose ATV, the Pioneer 520- a feature loaded upgrade on the older 500 which now features a loading bay and the largest engine in the class with loads of low RPM grunt.
Honda has revealed a new multipurpose ATV, the Pioneer 520 which comfortably seats two side-by-side and has a loading bed with tilt functionality which makes the ATV a versatile vehicle for all uses ranging from farm to leisure. The tilt bed comes with a flat tailgate for easy loading and unloading, cutouts made specifically to hold cargo. Supported by Honda’s Pro-Connect the loading bed can be customised with a myriad of features.
“Whether customers are looking for an entry-level side-by-side, stepping up from an ATV, or just seeking a vehicle that can work hard and have fun without taking up a lot of room, the Pioneer 520 should be at the top of their list.” said Lee Edmunds, Senior Manager of Powersports Marketing for American Honda in a statement.
An upgrade to the Pioneer 500, the vehicle has a larger engine-518cc single cylinder 4-stroke which comes with electronic fuel injection which means there are no issues with cold weather or high-altitude operations where air is thinner and conventional engines find it difficult to operate. The suspension has also been tweaked to provide a much softer ride without compromising on the off-road capabilities.
The transmission is automatic with Paddle shifters on the wheel, which immediately disengages the automatic mode when touched and this can be done while in operation. The system comes in handy when one does not need to meddle with the gears on routine jobs and can leave it in automatic while having the versatility to shift to manual gears if the need arises or the driver decides to have some fun. The four wheels are operated through the Traxlok system, which incorporates the soft-steering 2WD mode and the maximum-grip 4WD mode which can be switched at a moment’s notice.
The size of the Pioneer 520 is a big feature, being just 50in wide it is very useful at small farms with narrow roads or to access narrow paths near water bodies, the side-by-side is a packed machine. The loading bay is of crucial advantage and has a capacity of 450 pounds, with the added advantage of dumping, very useful for farm activities wherein uploading by hand takes precious manpower as well as time.
Honda’s smallest multipurpose side-by-side will go on sale in January 2021 and will be priced at $9,499 (INR 7L), which is a very reasonable price for such a feature loaded ATV. For buyers who would not be interested in the added features in the new model may choose to go for the already established Pioneer 500, which is priced a thousand dollars less.
