Introducing two new models in its Civic Type R listing- the Civic Type R Limited Edition and the Civic Type R Sport Line, Honda has successfully upgraded this line-up with new output enhancements while holding onto Honda’s hallmark hatchback segment. Both the Type R Limited Edition and Type R Sport have undergone major enhancements to deliver a better on-track performance and to flaunt a sporty aggressive appeal respectively. Honda has also equipped the two Type R GT and Sport Line with its performance data logger- the Honda LogR which keeps a record of the car’s performance. The suspension and steering have also seen some enhancements which now enable it to offer better-quality handling of the vehicle. Its advanced dual-axis multi-link suspension when paired with the adaptive damper system gives a healthier driving experience while quickly assessing road conditions ahead on the car’s track.

The line-up has surpassed many cars in its class with the huge amount of work this company has put in to make driving safer and easier with Type R’s lightweight yet rigid body which is aided with the electronic Agile Handling Assist and an evolved brake system. The Type R also includes new style variations which have mainly been done to increase its aerodynamic efficiency. In terms of power, the 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO engine gives maximum power and versatile performance. Their smooth manual transmissions, triple-exit exhaust with active sound control and drive-by-wire throttle have been designed specifically to assist the powerful engine and improve the car’s overall drivability. The customisable driving modes in Civic Type R, which go from ‘comfort’ and ‘sport’ to ‘+R’ mode and provide an experience ranging from everyday usage to track driving at the behest of the drivers, are nothing to sneeze at. Apart from the exterior and mechanical changes, the interiors have seen some enhancements of their own which keep a sport-focused modern aesthetic paired with classy red bucket seats.

The contrasting aesthetics of the Type R GT and Sport have contrasting interiors in the sense that one gives a premium luxury feel while the other offers a less imposing simple feel. They also have a generous boot space and Honda’s SENSING safety package. The LogR logging system studies the car performance over various parameters and using the results generated improves the driver’s skills. Its three utilities- performance monitor, log mode and auto score mode can be accessed with just a smartphone. Carmakers have also not shied away from adding a number of carbon accessories to the mix- mirror caps, wing spoiler, interior panels and a whole carbon pack for Civic Type R have all been made in carbon for supreme upgrades and aerodynamic competence. For their illuminated door sill trims, designers chose black anodised aluminium featuring the Type R logo. It is safe to say that Honda has truly renewed its Type R line-up and made changes that are apparent at the first sight and also the changes that can only be noticed with scrutiny and intelligent driving.
