The new GT car from Ferrari is elegant, minimalist and very understated visually, just as a Grand Touring car should be.
Italian automaker Ferrari has launched a few new cars last year, and one of the most exciting-the Roma has finally reached India. The car is based on the Portofino and is the new Front engined Grand Tourer from Ferrari, and has a design that calls back to the old days when cars just had beautiful curves, it even bears some resemblance to the Legendary 250 GTO. The first Roma bound for India has been captured at the IGI Airport in Delhi.
Design wise, the Roma is unique among its brethren, it has somewhat of an understated design that separates it from the Sports cars and Supercars from Ferrari and establishes the Roma as a thorough grand tourer. The other element is how the designers have taken true inspiration from the greatest looking cars from the 1960s, which is often regarded as the most elegant period of automotive design. The rear is sublime, and the only feature that juts out is the sharp small dual LED taillamps. At the front too the minimalist approach is evident from the mesh design grille, and the single strip of LED Daytime Running Lights. Overall one of the best looking cars out there.
The interiors are classic Ferrari too, although are a bit toned down on the performance use. The instrument screen is a massive wraparound display which is 16 inches and incorporates almost all the instrumentation as well as infotainment and informational aids, buttons on the steering serve as the controls for the screen. The panel and the controls have been designed in an elegant manner that ensures that the driver does not take his eyes off the road for long or hands off the steering. The rest of the cockpit is divided into two cells, which Ferrari says enhances the safety of the driver and passenger, there is a 8.4 inch vertically mounted display and a third screen can also be added on the passenger side.
The Ferrari is powerful and very fast, the 3.9 liter V8 that is turbocharged and powers a majority of Ferrari vehicles currently at different tuning stages. The one in the Roma makes 612 horsepower and is mated to a dual-clutch 8-speed gearbox sourced from Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team, that is extremely fast. The acceleration is timed at 3.4 seconds for the hundred, the Roma gets a Magnaride system that provides superior suspension and vehicular control.
The Ferrari Roma is built to be a proper Grand Touring car, and it is priced at INR 3.6 Crores and the one we see in the images is in a dark shade of green named-Verde British.
