Delivering upon its promise of advanced technicality, greater sophistication and overall efficiency, Jaguar Land Rover has launched the latest generation of its highly coveted family SUV- the New Discovery. Let’s take a look at what features set it apart from all the other models and whether it has the potential of becoming a leading family vehicle in its segment.

Globally renowned 4×4 maker- Land Rover’s New Discovery has been launched bearing the title of being a ‘versatile family SUV’. The company’s years of experience with building vehicles have undoubtedly strengthened their ability to create class-leading automobiles. The seven seater SUV, New Discovery is a prime example of the same. From elegant body proportions to futuristic equipment, this vehicle boasts it all.

“New Discovery is a beautifully proportioned and sophisticated premium SUV. This compelling and versatile vehicle has been refined in every detail, enhancing its characterful exterior and hugely versatile interior to ensure the Discovery maintains its position as the most capable and family-friendly full-size SUV in the world,” said Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer of Jaguar Land Rover.

By applying almost thirty years of its design evolution, Land Rover gave this SUV the kind of unique striking appearance that grabs the attention of everyone it passes by on the road. Many exterior features of this vehicle contribute to its confident appeal- fresh LED headlights, steeped roof and side vents are only a handful of all those distinguishing qualities. Along with this, its R-Dynamic model flaunts an even graceful look with the outside finished in Gloss Black and Shadow Atlas, while the inside includes dual-toned leather.

The new SUV’s outward charm, powerful engine, higher connectivity, cabin and seating space is Land Rover’s testament to the claim that it is a family vehicle, with something for every member of the lot.

For the younger tech savvy people, it comes with innovations like Pivi Pro infotainment system and SOTA (Software-Over-The-Air) updates. Its multiple display systems take care of entertainment, driver assistance and navigation. When on a long family tour, entertainment and comfort could be taken care of by Cabin Air Ionisation and inbuilt 4G WiFi hotspot.

An ideal family vehicle is one which can be used flexibly and accommodates all the needs of every family member. New Discovery’s functional cabin space, humongous load-space of five seats, Intelligent Seat Fold technology etc. have been added to make it an exceptional transport method. An increase in cushioning and support in the rear seats is optimal for aged passengers. This multipurpose vehicle can host multiple passengers at the same time, while still shouldering a greater load than many vehicles in its class.

Its versatility can be taken further with its various trim levels- S, SE and HSE, all of which have varying utilities.

It is only fair to think that an SUV with such huge passenger and luggage capacity would not be as fuel efficient as compared to other automobile models. However, its efficiency has been boosted with the 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle tech which lowers petrol or diesel consumption and carbon emissions by its three straight-six Ingenium engines.

Travelling long distances with as many as seven people has its own challenges. Therefore, Land Rover developed the New Discovery was developed to tackle this problem. Its extent of capabilities- be it comfort, driving assistance, terrain adaptability through Wade Mode and whatnot, it has a solution for everything. It drives well on off-road conditions as it does on urban roads with its ClearSight Ground View for drivers.

If adaptability and flexibility of usage are the qualifying parameters for an ideal family vehicle, then Land Rover’s New Discovery certainly passes the test.

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity at Land Rover stated, “New Discovery combines superb all-terrain suspension geometry with rewarding dynamics and excellent body control, while maintaining our family SUV’s famed ride quality and comfort. With a state-of-the-art suspension design, lightweight aluminium architecture and intelligent drivetrains we’ve returned the car to deliver a seven-seat SUV that is hugely versatile, highly capable, incredibly refined, yet more engaging to drive.”
