Here the open letter from Caterham on the launch of Super Seven 1600 –
This isn’t exactly what we anticipated when it came to launching our new car…
As the title of this article suggests, we’re doing something a little unexpected. We appreciate that everyone is self-isolating or working from home, so firstly – we hope that you and your family are safe, healthy and are doing well. Thank you for taking the time to come and have a look and what we’re up to.
Welcome to the launch of the latest addition to the Caterham line-up. We’ve thought long and hard about this, and yes it’s a little mad, but we hope you love the Super Seven 1600 as much as we do.
Our team has been working round the clock to bring the Super Seven to life. Numerous road tests, journalist loans and (thanks to the typical British weather) multiple video and photoshoots. In the more recent weeks, our management, directorial and marketing teams have been working from home, as everyone else has, to help launch the new Super Seven 1600 in a way we’ve never done so before.
So, what was the plan? We know that we’ve been a tad quiet the past few months, but there have been other exciting projects happening (which we look forward to sharing with you in the future) – so stay tuned. Our idea was to do a bit of a build-up to the Super Seven, teasing what you can expect and then we’d officially launch the car publically at our Easter Open Day. As you’d expect, things have changed – but we still want to spread a little joy during these times and show you what has been happening behind the scenes.
We look forward to welcoming you to the showroom (and at future events) to see the Super Seven as soon as it’s safe to do so. For now, please check out the Super Seven microsite and have a go on the online configurator.
Please take a look below to find out exactly what the Super Seven 1600 is all about – bonus points for those who know all of the 70’s references.
Stay safe, look out for each other, enjoy this article.
All the best – Team Caterham
Happy Days! It’s the New Super Seven 1600
Welcome to the new old-school
When you’re as great as I am, it’s hard to be humble.
The original Seven redefined the sports car as the world knew it, taking a no-nonsense approach to motoring and focusing on lightness and handling. However, after only one year on sale, the moustached master of mechanics, Colin Chapman, decided that the 7 Series 1 wasn’t quite fast enough.
A lighter, more powerful engine was fitted, supported by a new gearbox, along with a number of subtle aesthetic finishes and the first ‘Super Seven’ was born. Since then, the Super Seven name has officially graced a very select number of cars which demonstrated the best blend between style and performance, while the iconic and recognisable badge has lived on through numerous iterations. Back in the 1970’s we introduced our first cars, and set the scene for Caterhams you know and love today.
We’ve come along way since 1973, and now it’s time to introduce a new member to the Caterham Family. Welcome to the all-new Super Seven 1600.
