The Brabham BT62 will make its racing debut in a two-hour Britcar Endurance Championship meeting at the famed Brands Hatch circuit on 9-10 November 2019. The BT62 will appear on an invitational basis at this season-ending race on the Britcar calendar.
The full weekend of racing will feature a challenging two-hour ‘Into The Night’ race and a number of qualifying and practice sessions during both daylight and twilight hours.
The appearance of the Brabham BT62 at Brands Hatch will be the first time a factory Brabham car has been on the track since 1992, when Damon Hill gave the Brabham team its final finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he crossed the finish line behind the winner, Ayrton Senna.
Earlier this year, Brabham Automotive announced its intention to compete at the world’s most prestigious endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 2022. Brabham Automotive is currently assessing whether this will be in GTE or in the new Hypercar series.
This event at Brands Hatch will be the car’s first appearance on track in a competitive setting and is the commencement of Brabham’s Road to Le Mans. The Brabham BT62 will run under the newly established Brabham Motorsport banner, headed by new Brabham Automotive Sporting Director, David Brabham.
On his new role, David commented:
I planned to transition from Managing Director of Brabham Automotive into a motorsport role as Sporting Director as soon the time was right. I will now head our fledgling motorsport program, which will include managing the BT62 on track for Brabham Motorsport and establishing our customer-racing program. Having won major Championships and races over 35 years with many factory and private teams, I know what is required to compete at the highest level. Bringing the iconic Brabham name back to racing as a manufacturer is a long held ambition – it is where the brand and I belong.
With respect to the race at Brands Hatch, David Brabham said:
The Britcar meeting at Brands Hatch marks the first time in nearly thirty years that a new factory Brabham car has run at a racing circuit in a competitive setting. This race offers our team a valuable first opportunity to run the BT62 in a competitive environment, to learn more about the car’s performance and how the team operates under pressure. While track testing in a controlled environment is important, there’s nothing quite like running the car in a racing environment to see how it performs.”
Brabham Automotive recently announced its partnership with Goodyear, whose subsidiary brand, Dunlop, is title sponsor of the Britcar Endurance Championship. Goodyear and Brabham Automotive recently announced their partnership to collaborate across racing and road car developments, reigniting a winning partnership that began in 1965.

It will be a special night for the Britcar Endurance Championship, hosting the return to racing of the iconic Brabham marque at its end-of-season finale.

Brands Hatch holds a special place in all Brabham hearts. Sir Jack Brabham drove the BT19 race car to victory at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix at Brands Hatch when he won his third and final championship year, in 1966, the year he became the only driver to win a World Championship in a car of his own construction. Nelson Piquet also took victory there for Brabham at the 1983 European Formula 1 Grand Prix, driving the BT52B.
