With its most ambitious digital upgrade yet, BMW will update over-the-air more than 7,50,000 of its vehicles all the around globe. Through this upgrade, the company will provide the latest version of its Operating System 7 (version 07/20) and will go on to become the largest remote upgrade done by any European manufacturer. BMW will send a push notification to customers’ smartphones as soon as the update is available and will first be launched in Germany on 19th October, followed by other European countries and soon reaching out to rest of the world. The upgrade comes with a ton of added new functions from Maps to an enhanced Personal Assistant. Offering a completely transformed navigation system, BMW Maps is a culmination of real-time info with forecast models by cloud-based computation of its route. Drivers can also count on it for supplementary related information like business opening and closing times and any places of interest. It also provides suggestions based on text inputs through autocompleting.
Clients can also access their smartphones in the car via a wireless connection through the Google Android Auto. Google Maps and Apple CarPlay guide drivers with the Head-up Display and Info Display, and the latter also gives turn-by-turn instructions and street info. The upgrade’s Connected Parking makes finding a parking space easier by calculating the last detail related to parking information, available parking spaces, and if there’s any size difference between the parking area and the vehicle. BMW has also made this update exponentially eco-friendlier by adding the eDrive Zones service which is also the only one of its kind in the whole world. Its geofencing feature allows the vehicle to automatically turn on the electric drive mode in green zones, thereby saving fuel and reducing carbon emissions. Its new BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant also connects on an emotional level with the drivers and passengers by positioning itself towards whoever is speaking. It also acts on more voice commands and gains insights by asking for tips.
The Operating System 7 also adds Connected Charging to make driving easier and stress-free from worrying about recharging. It displays information about the locations of public charging posts and other areas of interest. With this update, the Smart Opener feature can also be configured in isolation or completely deactivated for the tailgate. This over-the-air update provided by BMW enables drivers to keep their vehicles up to speed with the latest software upgrades and adds new features while doing it. Saving time, it updates the whole vehicle in a matter of minutes and is available for more than 29 BMW models and further for the whole BMW armada. BMW’s How-To Channel gives data and prized instructions on connectivity and multimedia features. To install the software, the vehicles require BMW Live Cockpit Professional and BMW OS 7. Once the installation is complete, all the new features that come along with this update will be available at the disposal and convenience of the driver.
