Kith the American fashion brand has gone berserk with the designing on the M4 and there are some firsts among BMW’s partnerships, like the tweaks to the BMW logo.
The BMW M4 Competition Coupe is one of the most anticipated M launches, and now the German marque has partnered with Kith, a New-York based lifestyle brand to create a limited edition car. The car has been doctored by designers from Kith and features a youth oriented and fashionably on point design as compared to the standard M4. With only 150 units produced, the car is rare even before launch and will be available for pre-order starting 23 October. “With his ideas and Kith label, Ronnie Fieg is one of the outstanding minds and opinion leaders in the worlds of fashion, lifestyle and luxury.” said Jens Thiemer, VP BMW on the partnership.
Kith founder, Ronnie Fieg is a BMW enthusiast and has recently bought one of the greatest, the E30 M3 which was prominently displayed by BMW M at the pop-store in Brooklyn, alongside the modern iteration designed by Kith which has been tastefully painted with Fied’s M3 color, the cinnabar red, which was especially chosen to highlight the relationship between the two brands. The standard logo has been replaced by one from Kith with the M colors which is embossed on the boot lid, head restraints with Kith lettering on the seats which has been replicated on Fieg’s M3 marking the first time that BMW has let another brand alter their badging. “Some of my favourite memories from growing up are going to visit my grandfather and riding around in his BMWs in the 1980s. I remember he had an E21 320i and that his prized possession was an E30 M3” he said.
The exclusive Kith designed car is available in matte finishes only, Frozen Black, Dark Silver and White, which pray tribute to the most popular colors from the time of the E30 M3. The carbon-fibre roof on the special models has been etched with Kith lettering and M stripes. M brakes with red callipers are standard and adored the discs on the M forged 19in front and 20in rear wheels. The seats have Merino leather upholstery and come with M colors with Kith letters embossing. The car has the new Vertical Kidney grille adorning the front which gives the car a very aggressive stance, with the sharp body lines and the smartly but edgy rear.
Performance wise the special model has the same scores as the M4 Competition Coupe, with the inline-six which has come from BMW Motorsport and produces 510hp and 650Nm of torque using the M TwinPower turbo and has been mated to the 8-speed M StepTronic gearbox across the range. The car pounces to 0-100kmph in 3.9seconds and reaches 200kmph in 12.5 seconds and is available in rear-wheel as well as xDrive all-wheel drive options on the special model as well.
The M4 comes with a myriad of standard features such as the M Compound brakes, M forged wheels, M carbon bucket seats, M carbon package, BMW Laserlight and BMW individual lights shadowline. Carbon interior trim strips and controls electroplated applications are tastefully added to the cabin. The M4 is expected to cost around $109,250 (INR 80 lakh) a full $34,000 (INR 25 lakh) more than the standard M4 Competition Coupe with deliveries starting summer of next year. (Prices in India starting INR 1.3 crore for outgoing model)
