The 2021 DTM is becoming more and more international: with drivers from Austria, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand and the United Strates already having been confirmed for the upcoming season, Arjun Maini will be the first-ever driver from India to race in the series. The 23-year-old will be racing a Mercedes-AMG GT3 from the GetSpeed Performance team.
Headquartered in the business park near the Nürburgring, GetSpeed Performance has been involved in endurance racing since 2013. In the first years, the focus of the activities was on the team’s home track, the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. Two years ago, the team opted for Mercedes-AMG. In line with this move, the field of activities increased, too and GetSpeed has also been competing at international level ever since.
For GetSpeed, participation in DTM is a new chapter, as team principal Adam Osieka points out: “This is the first time we have been able to focus exclusively on one driver in the car in a performance-oriented series. This is a very pleasant situation, as we have previously always had to juggle the drivers’ different preferences in one car at endurance races. In the DTM, there is no need to make compromises. I am expecting exciting races and top-class motorsport.”
For Arjun Maini, meanwhile, DTM is uncharted territory, too, but at least he already knows the platform and the majority of the tracks from his participation in the Formula 3 European Championship. After that, he raced in GP3 and FIA Formula 2 and most recently, he competed in the Asian Le Mans Series. He says: I am really looking forward to my first season in the DTM with GetSpeed and the Mercedes-AMG GT3. DTM enjoys a fine reputation around the world and is the perfect opportunity for me to test myself against rapid GT3 drivers. At the moment, it is obviously hard to judge how I will fare against my fellow competitors. However, regardless of that, my goal is to achieve good results in the DTM.”
