The Civic has been a bestseller for Honda and the Japanese carmaker puts a lot of faith and engineering in the car, the new ones leans more towards a conventional sedan design but retains the iconic elements.
Honda has provided the world with the first look of the 2022 Civic prototype before it goes into production next year, cementing the rumors regarding the popular car’s design and new features. Twitch- the game streaming platform was used for the release of the 11th generation Civic on which the sedan, hatchback and the Type R would be based. Presently only the full-size Civic sedan has been revealed, with the release of subsequent iterations expected by next year.
The new design establishes the Civic as a much more grounded vehicle, the wide stance and the very luxury sedan inspired looks are hard to miss. Honda excelled on the “Man-Maximum, Machine Minimum” and has created a car which is fully centered around the driver and the passengers. The new Civic carries forward a design language set by the previous generation with quite some minor changes meant to benefit the driver, moving the A pillars and door mirrors to maximise the viewing angles and make it easier to drive. The hood has been elongated even further and the taillights have been updated. The Civic stands as a sporty sedan with an unconventional stance, with the high boot lid and the very long hoodline.
On the inside Honda has made quite a lot of changes, focusing on reducing clutter of the interior and making it clean and easy to use while being bolstered with tech. The instrument cluster is clean and features one surface rather than how conventional vehicles had a myriad of gauges in there, which in today’s times would be considered to be a distraction. The dashboard is dominated by a horizontal line of honeycomb pattern which adds character to the insides while concealing the air vents. The 9in infotainment screen is floating above the dash. Overall one of the most clean interiors one may encounter, focused on being minimalist.
The Civic has for the past generations featured the best-in-class safety features and the 11th gen carries forward that legacy. The car has a range of active and passive safety features which are integrated inside the Honda Sensing Safety and the driving aids. The car has been made with a new Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure which has more rigidity and provides enhanced protection to occupants during collisions. The new body construction also allows the Civic to have a more taut driving dynamic and sportier handling.
Details regarding the powertrain haven’t been released with the prototype but Honda says that the 11th gen Civic will be more powerful so we may see updated engines and new driver dynamics to help keep the signature driving style prevalent for the car. Expected to reach the USA by next year and India by the end of 2021, the car is set to be a bestseller like its predecessors have been. Priced in India at INR 18 lakh the new gen would also be expected to hang around the 20L mark.
