Hyundai launched the new Tucson today. The compact SUV is in its 4-th generation and comes and long and short-wheelbase variants to meed various customer demands. The car is very important for Hyundai also being among its most popular, selling more than 7 million units since its first launch in 2004.

The new Tucson comes with cutting-edge design, roominess, class-leading digital capabilities, dynamic ride and fuel efficiency. Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President, Head of Product Division at Hyundai Motor Group spoke about the launch,“This exciting vehicle sets a new benchmark for innovation in its segment, delivering an impressive blend of design, technology, packaging and performance.”

The Tucson will go on sale firstly in Korea this year with sales in US, Europe starting next year. In light of the pandemic Hyundai hosted an online event for the launch. The event can be viewed on Hyundai’s website and youtube channels for interested viewers.

Hyundai seeks to make the Tucson distinct with its design cues using what the designers call ‘parametrics dynamics’ that invokes sensuous sportiness design with a kinetic jewel surface detailing that makes it really stand out visually. The DRLs are hidden out of sight because of the way they are integrated onto the grille. The side profile that invokes a powerful stance. The sharp geometric angles create a unique contrasting image in between a sleek swift silhouette and a muscular design. The designers in order to achieve this seamless design theme throughout the body of the car, moved the logo to the real glass viewscreen and the wiper also hides out of sight when not in use.

The interior of the car is also designed with as much detail as the outside, made to invoke the passenger with the feeling openness, blending technology into the space. The vertically mounted central console and the use of metallic lines throughout. Comes with ambient interior mood lighting with multiple adjustment settings. The cabin is spacious with an excellent 38.7 cubic feet of space for cargo, foldable seats and other space creating features.

Apart from being very futuristic and comfortable, the Tucson comes with Smartstream 2.5L petrol and 1.6L Turbo, along with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The 2.5L engine has a power output of about 190PS and 182 pound/ft torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6L hybrid gives an output of 230PS, this new engine uses Continuously Variable Valve Duration(CVVD) technology that reduces emissions while maximizing power.

The Tucson is tuned to deliver superior driving agility and stability, with Hyundai’s E-Handling technology for select variants which improves steering response in adverse driving conditions. HTRAC 4-wheel system ensures superior grip and stability on varied surfaces.

The car uses NFC to convert users smartphone into key, which can even be used to start the engine and climate control from up to 90 feet away. Tucson engineers used aircraft technology to improve the climate control features .

Tucson may also be available later in the N-line variant, a high performance segment in Hyundai’s lineup.
