Audi Q2 ramps up the features of its predecessor with Progressive Steering, Matrix LED lights and bolder design highlighting the Polygonal Aesthetics and making it look more distinct and doubling down on the “Full of Character” as established by the 2016 Audi Q2.
The market for compact SUVs has been booming globally. The launch of Audi Q2 back in 2016 met with abundant acceptance in the market. Given its prior image of being a car full of character, the all new Audi Q2 with base version, Advanced and S line, enhances on the previous iteration and brings in tons of new features to entice a new customer base. This can be seen in the feature list and also the aesthetics of the car.
This car may look small given its dimensions and is also 1kg lighter but is full of spitfire with both its petrol and diesel version. The Petrol (Q2 35 TFSI) and the Diesel (Q2 35 TDI) have an output of 150 PS and will go from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 8.6 seconds. This new Q2 will have a seven speed S tronic transmission which is standard for 2.0 and optional for 1.5 Petrol version. The Diesel version comes fitted with quattro all wheel drive optionally and can transfer the engine torque to the rear end, a feature available only in the newer version. The emission system is in adherence with the Euro 6 AP emission standard and works on a twin dosing technology with two SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Converter.
The exteriors of the car have been made bolder and significantly more eye catchy with a bent towards the polygonal design. This was already there in the predecessor, but only in front and shoulder line but now can be seen in the pentagonal bumper and the headlights are distinguished in the front and come with Matrix LED headlights along with pentagonal larger air inlets. The front is designed to look bigger and doubles down on the slightly lowered octagonal Singleframe.
There are five colors for which the Basic Q2 is available from an Apple Green to more hues of gray and blue with Manhattan gray, Navarra blue, arrow gray, and turbo blue. If you fancy yourself to be an Apple Green kind of person, it is debuting with this iteration. In the advanced and S line, there are distinct exterior equipment lines in the color pallet of black and carbon styling package along with body colored mirror housings. As already mentioned about the new Matrix LED headlights for this new Q2, this is to illuminate the road further without blinding your fellow travellers and if fanfare is your thing, the car lights up when locked or unlocked with these new LED light sequencing.
Coming to the interiors of the Q2, the car is roomy and has a boot space of 405 liters and can hold 5 people given its size. You can also get in the petrol variant, storage and luggage compartment along with tailgate to open electrically delivered by Audi and in the diesel version, Q2 can tow trailers (1500 Kg). The aesthetics of the inside of the car are available in 7 packages which are distributed among 4 basic versions and three for the S line. These are black based for the upholstery but can be two toned with gray, black and brown with accent stripes.
Moreover, the material is now being recycled and will have faux leather and leather vibes. These packages will also include pedals, footrests, etc. The S version elevates these interior packages with stainless steel and front door sill trims which are lighted and have a S logo and the inlay is in aluminum based in S line. S line further accentuates the interiors with a Format Light Graphics, where knee pads, instrument panel, are back light. There are multiple features which can be individually taken or as a package like ambient lighting, climate control, infotainment, dynamism, and assist systems. This is to empower the customer, so that they can customise the Audi their way.
The infotainment for the new Q2 will be in three levels starting with an analog instrument with single color display as standard and if you like colors, you can choose as an option. In their premium version, the Audi will have a look of virtual cockpit of 12.3 inch along with MMI navigation plus. The MMI radio is available across the variants along with a package which has 8.3 inch display, an Audi Smartphone interface, a wifi hotspot for all the passengers. If you are looking to check on your car remotely, Audi gives you that option with myAudi app and if you are big on privacy, this feature can be opted on a privacy mode. The 14 speakers in the car of Bang and Olufsen Premium Sound System.
When all said and done, the car is meant for driving and aesthetics will be aesthetics, the Q2 comes with driver assist of “Drive”, “Park” and Safety and can go on adaptive cruise assist up to a speed of 210 km/h, you just have to gently touch the steering wheel. The Drive via Audi virtual cockpit has emergency assist, traffic sign recognition along with already mentioned cruise control and adaptive cruise control.
Along with driver assist, it also comes with a progressive steering. The progressive steering enhances the driving experience and handling of the car especially on windy places. The suspension of the Q2 is a MacPherson strut for the front wheels and torsion beam structure for the rear. The S line suspension lowers it by 0.4 inch, and also introduces a Dynamic system which will have five modes for the driver to choose from- Auto, Efficiency, Comfort, Dynamic and Individual. The base model comes with 16-inch 205/60 tires and the advanced and S lines will have 17 inch 215/55 tires and the top variant will have 19 inch with 235/40 tires along with three varied rim types. The ground clearance of this compact Q2 comes to about 7.9ninches and can be handy on unpaved roads or for an adventure.
Lastly, let’s talk about pricing of this compact SUV in the European Market. The base model comes to about EUR 25,000 (INR 21.67 Lakh) in Germany, and a Q2 34 Petrol version will start at EUR 27,198 (inclusive of tax) (INR 27.38 Lakh). Moreover if you are looking for something more premium, an edition one will also be launched with exclusive equipment. It will have the same interiors as the S line with Apple Green or Arrow Gray as the colors with gray contrasts. In a nutshell, it will be similar to S line top model with 19 inch wheels to a sports suspension, ambient lighting package but more exclusive.
