Buick Envision Launched in China with Important Upgrades

  • Adds nine-speed transmission for improved fuel efficiency
  • Receives new front and rear design

SHANGHAI – Buick launched the 2018 Envision in China today. With a new nine-speed transmission, updated design and enhanced connectivity, it offers an unmatched experience in the premium midsize SUV segment.

The Envision originally went on sale in China in October 2014. It remains Buick’s most popular SUV and second most popular model overall, with deliveries of 169,227 units in the first 10 months of this year.

New exterior design and spacious interior

The 2018 Envision adopts Buick’s new design language. Its smoothly integrated “flying-wing” front grille and “spread-wing” LED headlights, together with a new lower bumper and fog lights with chrome trim, create a dynamic visual effect.

The front end is complemented by a newly designed rear that is more three-dimensional. It has wide chrome trim that runs across the back, slender crystal diamond-shaped LED taillights, an elongated high-mounted stop lamp and dual trapezoidal tailpipes. New front and rear fenders support the SUV’s sporty appearance.

With a length of 4,667 mm, width of 1,839 mm, height of 1,696 mm and wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the 2018 Envision provides a spacious and comfortable interior. It carries forward its predecessor’s popular 360-degree integrated luxury cockpit design. A classic 4/6 split rear seat makes the SUV flexible while enhancing space. An aluminum alloy roof-mounted luggage rack that comes standard increases the functionality.

To make the driving experience more enjoyable and convenient, the 2018 Envision comes with keyless entry and one-button start, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology, the automatic engine start-stop system, a multifunctional steering wheel, cruise control, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a panoramic sunroof.

The 28T variant adds a resistance-reducing grille, 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, an 8-inch high-definition touchscreen, heated leather seats and Moon White ambient lighting.

Choice of economical powertrains

Like Buick’s all-new Regal and 2018 LaCrosse introduced earlier this year, the 2018 Envision features Buick eMotion Intelligent Drive Technology.

The Envision is available for the first time with GM’s new nine-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, which has applied over 60 GM patented technologies. The forward gears are specifically calibrated according to the actual needs of local users, for soft and smooth operation.

It is mated to a high-performance 2.0T SIDI turbocharged engine that was named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines. The engine has maximum power of 191 kW and increased torque of 400 Nm. Its 0-100 km/h acceleration has been sharpened by 0.2 second, setting a quality benchmark for midsize SUVs.

Selected variants also come with a smooth-shifting seven-speed DCG dual-clutch transmission that is matched with a 1.5T SIDI direct injection turbocharged engine. The powertrain churns out 124 kW of power and torque of 250 Nm, while dropping fuel consumption to 6.6 liters/100 km.

Purposeful connectivity

The 2018 Envision features Buick’s new-generation eConnect connectivity technology. With a convenient app, users can listen to Kaola FM internet radio and NetEase cloud music, and enjoy other online entertainment features. The system also supports Apple CarPlay, for unprecedented human-car interaction.

In addition, the 2018 Envision is equipped with the 10th generation of OnStar, which provides 22 major services and four value-added services. Customers can enjoy five years of basic OnStar service free of charge.

Advanced handling and safety

The 2018 Envision is the only model in its segment with the FlexRide adaptive driving system, a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) active suspension and the all-terrain four-wheel-drive system. The FlexRide system has four modes – standard, travel, sport and off-road – for a “four cars in one” driving experience. The four-wheel-drive system provides real-time power distribution between the front and rear wheels as needed. This greatly improves maneuverability and handling in challenging driving conditions.

The 2017 Envision received a maximum 5-Star Safety Rating in C-NCAP testing. Its successor comes with six air bags, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, an electronic parking brake (EPB), the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and parking sensors as standard equipment. Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Change Alert (LCA) and other eProtect safety technologies are available on the top-of-the-line 28T configuration.

Seven variants of the 2018 Buick Envision are offered with a choice of seven exterior colors, including the new Meteoric Iron Gray and Rosewood Red, at a price of between RMB 219,900 and RMB 319,900.
