Ferrari is known for its ability to build thrilling sports cars that are at the height of technological and performance advancement of their day, and the Enzo was definitely one of those vehicles.
Inspired by F1, the Enzo featured advanced composite bodywork and a carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb sandwich chassis. With many hours of testing logged in the wind tunnel and on track, the nose was shaped into a cone reminiscent of F1 cars, and its composite sides were sculpted to redirect air flow. A big rear wing didn’t feature on the Enzo; alternatively, focus was directed to more subtle aerodynamic aids and ground effect.
Along with the streamlining of the bodywork, the car was fitted with a completely new 5,998.80 cc, naturally aspirated, 48-valve, V12, Ferrari Tipo F140B engine that focused on delivering both a high level of power and massive amounts of torque at low revs. The gearbox was rear mounted and connected directly to the engine. As a result, the Enzo’s downforce reached a maximum of 77 kg at 300 km/h. To ensure a smooth deceleration from these speeds, the Enzo was fitted with a braking system developed specifically for the car by Brembo, which featured carbon ceramic discs — a first for a Ferrari road car.
The interior was relatively spartan, with most surfaces made of carbon fibre, electronic traction controls and steering wheel-mounted shift lights installed, and the sound system, air conditioning and electric windows omitted. In development, Ferrari placed great attention on the “human-machine” interface to put “the driver in the best possible condition to exploit the car’s extreme performance,” as the brochure stated.
With just 400 examples built over its two years of production, the Ferrari Enzo is one of the marque’s most ground-breaking models — melding all of its knowledge and technology from a time when Ferrari was on a remarkable winning streak in F1 and implementing it in a road car. The Enzo is a benchmark for all models that have followed and is often on the list as one of the greatest Ferraris ever made.
This Ferrari Enzo
The car offered here, chassis ZFFCZ56B000138879, is one of only 400 Ferrari Enzos built and, more impressively, understood to be one of only two finished in Grigio Alloy paintwork. It was first ordered by Ferrari France, Charles Pozzi S.A. on 24 October 2002. Less than three years later, the Enzo was delivered to its first and only owner via Charles Pozzi on 15 March 2005.
On 15 April of the same year, the car was registered in France and assigned licence number ’79 TAA 69’. A man appreciative of not only the Ferrari marque but also the quintessential model that is the Enzo, the owner of chassis ZFFCZ56B000138879 showed great restraint and stored the car for the majority of its life, putting less than 2,500 kilometres on its odometer.
In preparation of sale, the owner commissioned Rossocorsa, the official Ferrari dealer in Milan, Italy, to perform a major service on the Enzo. This service encompassed such things as replacing all filters, the battery, and all four tyres and their sensors, changing the oil, and performing an electronic diagnosis of all the on-board controls.
Today, the car is accompanied by its original Certificate of Origin, a congratulatory letter from then Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo, images from production, owner’s manuals, the warranty booklet and leather pouch, a spare key, and Enzo model, a toolkit and Schedoni carbon-fibre briefcase, a car cover and a battery charger.
As Ferrari’s final mid-engined, non-hybrid hypercar, the Enzo will always live on in not only the marque’s record books, but also in record books of connoisseurs the world over. To acquire one such as this example, with just one owner and less than 2,500 kilometres from new, in this exceptional colour combination is a truly rare opportunity.
