The Dodge Power Wagon has long been one of the purist forms of a utility truck. Few could match the barebones nature of the Power Wagon; from its stump-pulling powertrain and no-frills interior to its versatile overall working nature, the Power Wagon was like having a personal tank—it would go pretty much anywhere and could handle pretty much any job. This reputation made it a shoo-in for the military and companies looking for robust, durable vehicle for a variety of uses. It was also used in many rural areas where the environment and general duties called for the toughest of the tough.
This 1941 Military Power Wagon is nicknamed “Full Metal Jacket” and has been featured in the Mopar Collectors Guide and Hot Rod and Truckin’ magazines. It’s also served as a feature vehicle for Prestone, Adam’s Polishes, Pilot Transport and Amsoil. It’s a multiple ISCA award winner at the Detroit and Salt Lake Autoramas, it has taken the award for Best Truck Interior, Outstanding Truck, Best Engineered and ISCA Top 10, and it has even earned the Goodguys Builder’s Choice Award. Anyone should be impressed by this list of accolades. Powered by a 3.9L 4BT Cummins Turbo Diesel engine with an HX35 turbocharger and a TH350 automatic transmission, the backbone of this Power Wagon is a custom chassis with triangulated 4-link and 30-inch shocks rolling on 37×13.5-inch Maxtrek Mud Trac tires and 20-inch black 10-spoke wheels.
Presented in a contrasting gray and black color scheme, the overall look is outstanding and hardy, but it’s not such a blunt object that it doesn’t deliver an ocean of details to wow onlookers. Careful examination will reveal smoothed seams and a custom Brazilian hardwood bed accented by hand-brushed nickel. Inside, passengers will enjoy redefined seats upholstered in supple Italian leather upholstery by Premium Hydes; drivers will appreciate the accuracy and visibility of Dakota Digital gauges, the versatility of an Ididit steering column and the assuredness of a B&M shifter—there’s even hidden handgun compartments in the floor panels. Outside, more details abound, such as custom lights including a full LED light bar and a full grille guard. This is truly a remarkable Resto Mod treatment to one of America’s most revered trucks.
